YanıtlaSilREADING JOURNAL - 1
YanıtlaSilI think the author who wrote 'A Cultural Difference:Being o Time' wanted to mention about difficulties which people faced to face in a foreign country. This text is so realistic about this problem. When you go somewhere, you are supposed to be attuned to their behaviors.Generally, there could be a cultural bumb with you and they. The professor who the author mentioned about tried to make like his new students. This part is very important because if you go to a country where you are going to work, you cannot expect native peopleto behave what you are accustomed. So you should learn everything about their life styles, customes, and behaviors. The author wrote a text about only being on time.It could be better if he gave us more examples for the differences between cultures like greeting, meal cultures or life styles.
READING JOURNAL-WEEK1
YanıtlaSilOur age is age of communacation of cultures. We can go anywhere we want to go.While we can travel and learn the world in such an easy way, why don't we try to understand each other culture tolerantly? In these two text I realized there were people who thinking like me.
In first listening text ''A Cultural Difference:Being on Time'' I like the ending of the story between the American professor and Brazilian students.American professor didn't think the students's behavior as a fault. He tried to realize why they did like this way. It's good that he thinks like that considerate. If he just has been critical about students ,he never get used to his new job in Brazilia.Being adapted is hard ,I know.If we could be as tolerant as this professor for each other,I'm not just talking about among nations,I'm sure we don't have too much argumentation.
In second text''Avoiding Cultural Taboos'' I realized being thoughtful about other cultures is important as being tolerant. When we go somewhere that we don't know in any way, we could make big mistakes while we express ourselves. It can causes bad consequences. If we don't want to be in this way, we'd better try to learn the culture of place that we go.
In the both of the texts, the authors mention about importance of being considerate about different culture.I'm sure it makes all traveler's life easier.

YanıtlaSilISSUE:A Cultural Difference:Being On Time
The auther wrote about difference between American and Brazilian people.According to the text person who is an American professor went to Brazilian university for teaching and he realized something different from his country.Difference was being on time or punctality for an appointment,a class,a meeting, etc. His first day was very interesting because when he came to the class nobody was in there, this part was very important because everything started with this astonishment.Students were coming to the class and some of them apologized, but some of them didn't say anything. At this point he asked yourself ''Is this normal behaviour in Brazil?'' If I were professor,I couldn't be calm about being late and sitting like nothing happened.I think he is very mature person also this approach shows us how he became a professor:)Professor started to communication with students and he procured this result ''American students defined lateness as 19 minutes after the agreed. On the other hand the average Brazillian student was 33 minutes.'' This sentence is ridiculous ,in my opinion. If you say why do you thing like that I can explain. The auther didn't mention about how many students attended this survey and did they serious while they giving an information? Otherwise,I can't see any scientific side in this generalisation.I was suprised when I red that 'In Brazil, the students believe that a person who usually arrives late is probaly more succesful than a person who is always on time.'This sentence shows us that differences between cultures don't depend only tradiation. Also it depends how people think or comment about events. Before reading the text I have no idea about Brazilian' and American' behaviour about being on time. The auther told us this subject thoroughly.I want to thanks him or her for this text :)
Bye for now my dear readers :D

YanıtlaSilBeing on time is change person to person, culture to culture. Punctuality is important for many community or it doesn't matter for some of them. According to proffessor who make a research about difference between American and Brazilian students punctuality, there are some reasons of situation. He thinks that Brazilians expect a person with status or prestige to arrive late.
YanıtlaSilI think this idea is ridiculous. In my opinion, Brazilian people are too lazy. They uses lies to hide their laziness.
Eventually I don't agree with author. I really curious about how could he become a professor?

YanıtlaSilA Cultural Difference:Being On Time
The author talked about being on time which is part of the cultural differences.I really like this reading because the author explained the topic with an interesting example.Especially the example made me impress because of I am not a punctual person.I always want to become a punctual person, but I cannot do that.Until read the paragraph, I think being late is a rude behavior, but now I know that it is not impolite for Brazilians.I have learned that there are specific periods about being late. For example; for Americans are 19 minutes, for Brazilians are 33 minutes.I think this information is really interesting.Brazilian people believe that a person who usually arrives late is probably more successful than a person who is always on time, also like that.Brazilians like me so I love them so much :D When I look at the situation as on American, situation does not look so nice and of course they are right.Nobody likes waiting for a long time. The author thinks like that I guess. In the end the author showed us that; behaviors changeable to people who live with you,and their culture.(I want to visit Brazilia :D)

YanıtlaSilISSUE:A Cultural Difference:Being On Time
The author managed to keep me interested in the text because the cultures around the world are very different and very much the alike at the same time.Honestly, when we can read these cultural things,we had better realize each other and our cultural necessity.I allow that ,I have no idea which is not important being on time for Brazilian. The author catch the subject with giving a good example for me.Actually, first page created the impression that cultural differences is bad thing but you read the second page, you understand it was not at all. Also last paragraph remind us that cultural differences is our treasure.Professor is who is in text not trying to adapt their behavior on the contrary,he adapted in the new culture.I really like that point on the text.

YanıtlaSilREADING JOURNAL-1
YanıtlaSilISSUE:A Cultural Difference:Being On Time
This reading text reminded me of what I thought about differences. I thought that differences are good. They are the ones what made us special. But after I read this text I felt that I should think that again. Are the differences always good? On a second think differences are not that good. Actually some of them are no good at all. I was shocked after I read this text. Brazilians think that being late is not bad. Still they think that person who arrives late is important person. He or she is more succesful than themselves. How does being late OK? How can they think that person is important? I think the one who arrives late doesn’t care about the punctual ones. They aren’t eminent to the late person. I believe that no one has a right to do that especially being late for an hour. I think professor was wrong to adopt this situation. He could maket he students come early.
Sorry for the delay.
Readibf journal 1 .
YanıtlaSilI enjoyed a cultural difference writing really much . its about difference between 2 cultural thing which is i am quite interested in .There must be lots of topics about cultures but this one was different . it was really interesting. was a different taste to read it. little bit story and little bit scientific. it was not boring like other research writings.
İ wonder if it really happened, because if its real i'd like to meet the professor from text.İ liked the 4.th parahraph ;Comporosion of differences of cultures part .Text gives some details but didn't make me confused.I am not sure about the main idea .The professor reminded me of a family friend. he was unfamiliar about some stuff when he came to Turkey for first time. if i was the a author i would give more information about the professor.Brazilian students should read this text .Puncuality is not important for them so I am sure it must be interesting for them to know about American teacher's behavior. I'd like to ask some questions to author about research . I wonder what would be the situation of a Brazilian teacher in America
Issues For Today- Taboos and Different cultures-
YanıtlaSilAuthor managed to keep me interested in the text because I am going to be pilot, so I will stay a lot of different places.I have to learn about different cultures for not rude to local people and being polite.Author told me how to behave local people in different countries and differen cultures. There are lots of interesting information in the text, it is very useful but I am looking at first paragraph carefully, I think first paragraph is not connect with other paragraphs.First paragraph told about:"Thanks to air travel, countries are closer than past." However other paragraphs mentioned about:" Be careful! You have to polite native people, you must learn about their major taboos".
In my humble opinion the text is enjoyable because it tells about my future job.
READİNG JOURNAL1 In my humble opinion, both readings are equally boring because I'm not interested in these theme, and these paragraphs add nothing to me.For instance, the first reading text which on the issues for today 3,an American professor, who teaches in brazil, lived when he was in brazil, isn't interesting.Everybody knows that countrys have different culture.I think the author is really trying to say cultural difference, but the subject isn't directed carefully and impressive by the author. My misunderstanding point:Why did the author compare between USA and Brazil.I sure, nobody can explain this point.Let's get started second text. This text is better than first text.Statement of reasons:
YanıtlaSilThe tittle of the reading passage is perfect match because the subject come to agreement with the tittle, and the author managed to keep me interested in the text because I've learnt something since I read this text However the most beautiful thing about this text that the author's words made a picture in my mind about taboos, but this text's theme is boring for me The author may choose better theme It is possible to one mistake in every text for me so I like this text Eventually both readings tell us same story, but authors change everything. If I had the chance to talk to the author of first text.I would ask him "why do you write?" Think about this question
