  1. READING JOURNAL-11
This week,we mainly discuss archaeological issues, but topics of this week are somewhat related with one another. The second text, handout, demonstrate what archaeologists' profession includes and the process of excavating. From this aspect, the second text can assist readers of first text in understanding clearly because the first text, also, mentions an archaeological discovery:the Ice Man.According to scientists, importance of the Ice Man is inestimable because he is a messenger from the past thanks to his preserved body and DNA.However, the corpse does not point me out.In the bargain, that scientists push themselves to find out the truth about reason of his death turns me off.I wonder what they do when they discover the real reason.I think that they want to act as if they are famous. For this reason, they raise the importance of their profession.Besides,I am doubtful whether or not the author reflects the facts about the topic after I watch the video about this topic. For the second text, the text and its information are so specific that they can interest only archaeologists and archaeologist-to-be.Also,the text includes some terminologic words such as stratification, typology, but learning these words can improve our knowledge.I wish all authors would add this sort of words. Finally,I noticed that the first thing the author underlines rareness of written historic records.I suppose the author is right because archaelogists generally strive to find artifacts or ruins due to lack of written historic sources.

This week, we mainly talked about things which are related to the past. That the archeology and archeological methods are really important to give us an idea about past is the topic of the text which is written on the extra reading paper. The reason why the studies of artifacts and fossils are vital for us is to broaden our horizons. Written history is not enough to offer an insight into the past. At that point, archeological methods gain importance because we can learn about our anchestors and anything about the past by using these methods. Now, with the help of the technology, excavation and other methods are easier than in recent years, we can learn much more things from fossils that are found. It can be said that the second text which is in the book is like a specific example to show people how much importance the archeology has. The main topic of this text is The Ice Man who was called Otzi. Although there is not a certain decision about the age of Otzi and the reason of his death, he had some scars on his body when he was found and it was estimated that he was approximately 5000 years old. The scientific research that is trying to identify the circumstances of him still continues. The findings are controversial, but in my point of view, when the technological opportunities are improved, all reality will come to light. As a result, both texts are not only good, but also I find them so informative.

  3. This week's texts seems like a refutation for the last week's . Same topic, but in a different way. Even if recent one has less information about the iceman,it sounds more convinient because of the organization of the information.second texts has some new information such as the age of the time and another wound on the body of otsi. The main reason of all these differences between 2 texts would be the process of researchs. That makes me think that in the near future, there will be more information about ötsi and it is undeniable that only the development of the techonology is going to lead that. Even if there are so many different scenarios , the only and unpleasant question is wheter or not ötsi's body will remain same .If not , it is going to be a secret forever

  4. We broadly discussed archeological researches.First text has made me realized assorted of things about an unprecedented view of Chalcolithic Europeans.Ötzi the Iceman is a mummy of a man who lived about 5,300 years ago.First text gave us almost all details about Ötzi,so I am pleasured to read this text.On the contrary, second text was general idea about archeological researches. The author tried to give how to do an archeological research. When reading second text,I realized that I do not know anything how to do an archeological research. For thar reasons both two texts completed each other.

  5. Two texts of this week are not as easy as we did before to integrate. They are focused on different things. The first text is about a 4000-year-old corpse found by hikers in South Tyrol, Italy. Although it is not certain how he died, there are some theories. Scientist got a lot of information from it about his people and their culture. They learnt some about European civilization around those times from his clothes and gear. However, I am not sure that they can be sure about his cause of death which is most interesting thing for me now. The second text says that there are not much written about history. Thus, archeologists try to get information from remnants about old societies. It focuses on methods used in excavations and their applied order. In conclusion, both texts can be considered as lectures from archeology class and they give a lot jargon.

This week,we read a text which is about Iceman.Iceman is a kind of mummy. This mummy was found in the Ötzal Alp that's why his another name is Ötzi.It is doubtful whether he lived 4000 or 5000 years ago.Depend on my searches, some of the sources say that he lived about 5300 years ago.I cannot understand how the researches can be different from each other. All of the informations about Ötzi are skeptical.I don't know which one is true or false.Nevertheless, humanity acquired lots of datas about past. Some equipments were found with corpse, and these were very affective and protective.By dint of these gears, the mummy of Ötzi was preserved perfectly.I have no comment about this text because all of the informations depend on possibilities.About second text, the writing was about archaeological researches. It was quite informational and interesting. If I need to say something, making a researh is very rigorous job in the urban areas. For example,in Turkey, lots of the remnants reveal during the construction works.I know that few of them inform the investigators.Majorit of the jobsites don't do that because if they do,their works will be interrupted by laws.To conclude, both of the texts were good and thanks to the authors.

  7. Reading Journal -11-

This week topic was about life in the past. First, we have learned many things about Iceman,Ötzi who was died 4000 or 5000 years ago. Time was unclear because there were two texts about Ötzi which were totally different in terms of information. It was very uprising for me because I know the story. The second text in the book was more realistic and scientific than the first. These two texts were both about Ötzi in different ways, but the text in handout is not totally related with book, and also not so irrelevent. This text was very informative. It includes archeological methods and usage of these methods. Probably, some of them was used to find fossils or remnants. All texts were informative and attractive, yet archeological methods was not as exciting as Ötzi.

The subject of this week has the most interesting subject I've ever read in texts of concepts for today so far.It was about a passenger who came from 4000 years ago,Ötzi. The oldest man of earth and his story about accidentally being found.I guess the reason of why I like this week's subject is that we saw an extra visiual part;documantary of Ötzi.Except differences between the documantary and the text;it was more convincing and pleasant for me.The information about Ötzi which the text included was visiualized in the documantary. The construct was good enough to conjoin the scientific information ,the theories, and also my imagination. So I'm very pleased to have this week's subject. The second text was includes less interesting information for me in compare to the other because it was about archeological methods and their process. It was fine to read but it didn't blow me away like the other did.

  9. READING JOURNAL - 11
We read 2 texts about a messenger from the past this week. I think the topic was quite good, but texts were not. The author talked about the iceman- Ötzi who came from the Bronze Age, some researches done about him, and the reason of his death. Ötzi was found by a German couple, and they alerted the scientists. When they found the Ötzi, he still wore remnants of leather garments and boots, and he had some gears. The scientists found tattooes on his body, and he was injured. They studied on his body again, and again, and again. After all studies on his body, the most sensible result was that he was escaping from something or someone because he had injured, and he had everything which provided to survive him, and I think it makes sense. The author said that only one body is not enough to say something about this time, and people of this time. Of course it is true, but when I read this text I realized that people -I mean scientists- can find a lot of things with only one body. Then I thought that people can find millions of things with 2 or 3 bodies, and the things which will be found give us very beneficial information about past. It can be said that the text was good at least it gave something about Ötzi. Before the text, I have no idea about Ötzi. Altough there is nothing discernable, I cannot say it was bad because like I said before it's topic was interesting. The other text discussed archeological methodss and their process. There were some terms about archeology, and it said the same thing written documents are not enough to say something, they need more clue like in the first text. The only parallelism which I can found between texts was that both texts mentioned something which is about archeology. Maybe thing written in texts were not satisfactory, but I have read more boring texts than them.
