READING JOURNAL - 4 This week, we talked about "Laughter" in both our book and the extra reading text. I was suprised when I realized that both authors succeed in keeping my attraction. First of all, I wan to start with the text which is in the book. This text includes much more scientific informations than the other text. It is said that laughter is able to decrease the risk of heart attack, and protect the heart. In addition, it is a logical inference which I plump for that in the author's point of view, laughter can be a part of the remedy which helps people live healthier. The text also includes some statistic. In my tuppence worth, it is an effective way to catch the reader's attention. Secondly, to talk about the other text, a good example for the topic -laughter- is stated. Even at the moment when there is no way to recover, people can overcome their diseases with the help of laughter. If a person like Norman Cousins has a destructive disease, he or she should try everything and never give up. Every should always smile. Even that person is defeated by disease, it should be said, "He smiled every time. It is good to smile during the death." No one is an authority to say that laughter is an exact remedy, but it is clear that laughter is a good aid.
As usual you have really analyzed the text thoroughly. I appreciate your choice of vocabulary in particular. You've mentioned some points in the texts and reflected on the authors' viewpoint. This time, you were able to move one step further and reflect on to what extent laughter has in curing some illnesses. Keep writing:)
READING JOURNAL UNIT-4 Topic of this week is importance of laughter on health of people.According to both authors, laughter can affect our health in a good way.I have to state that the topic is both absorbing and prevailing. Also, this reading text reminded me of the fact that I laugh a great deal of time.Thankfully,my laughter is not going to be waste of energy or time.Anyway,to begin with,I am going to mention the text which is handout. The author use a different way to explain ´´exemplification.´´The author mention a problem of Norman Cousins and how to treat himself. The story of Norman Cousins is unpredictable.Even a doctor said that he absolutely would die. However,he never gave in,and treat himself by power of laughter. He make funny things and reduces his stress. Finally,he overcame. The overall message of the text is that the power of laugher is undeniable.Frankly,I strongly recommend that people who have an ailment should read this text because the text can lead the people. However,I notice that the text smells like Hollywood films, isn't it?Because, almost whole Hollywood films give a message to us,and the message is 'never give up.'On the other hand,if I had the chance to talk to the author of this text, I would ask him/her how the author wrote such a fascinating text.Anyway, out of the blue!!!The second text includes a huge amount of researchs.I had never seen only a research in this book until I read this text!!!Anyway, unlike the first author, this author use a lot of research to prove and convince the readers, and give us recipe for health. It is more informative than the first, but it cannot better than first one.Although I don't enjoy this text, for the sake of the topic, this text is better than the others which take part in these series I have read so far.Nonetheless,I am informed by this text in many ways because the text has truths about health, and specific information. Finally, the participants of this text are well-edeucated
I'm quite content that you've been analyze the two texts so thoroughly. I see several details from both of the texts and your reflection them. You've also succeeded in integrating the ideas in the text with real*life situations. Your reflections are quite striking. The only thing you could avoid doing is the too much summary of the texts. Apart from that, you have done a very good job. Thnk you:)
This week we had two text. Suprisingly, they were related. The topic was same, but style of writers were completely different. I want to start with boring one. As usual, Concept For Today is boring, and again full of numbers. I think in daily life, no one trusts this writer , because writer always use statistics to prove his ideas. I didn't feel anything while I was reading. I don't like insensitive texts. In addition, writer just reported Dr. Miller's words. That's why I didn't like text, but the other text was very interesting. I really enjoyed while I was reading. The story showed me the power of faith. It was very exciting, and full of hope. "Belief is half of the succeed." This old saying is suitable for his situation. I admire his afford. After reading this text, I started to being more positive. I discovered the importance of laughter.
Yiğit, I see your reflections on both texts. You've clearly stated why you didn't like the first one and why you liked the second one. However, I see that you abstain from reflecting on the content which is "laughter" Whay don't you mention more whether you believe laughter is like a preventive medicine in particular for heart attacks or any other diseases. You had better reflect on the content and your journal will be more stimulatimg then. Thanks: İnci teacher
The topic of this week is about laughter. Apparently, some believe that laughter is a kind of medicine and book says not only a kind of medicine, it is also the best one for heart. It is quite shocking news for me. The text from book bores me with researches which I believe the results of them are coincidence. Over and above these researches the writer gives advices about how to laugh in his infinite wisdom(!) The other text gives more specific example. According to text laughter has saved a man’s life. This is something you do not see everyday. You can call me skeptical but I am just being realistic so I do not buy something like that. I find these texts are pejorative to modern medicine. Laughter is just laughter not something that one can use exaggeratedly.
Ersel, I see that you are critical about the text in the book and how the author dealt with the issue. Although your reflection is quite short, it still gives the reader an idea about why you disagree that laughter can not be a remedy for illnesses. Yet, you could elaborate on the reasons for why you don't agree in more detail next time. I know you can achieve it. I appreciate your effort indeed. İnci teacher:)
READING JOURNAL - 4 This week our topic was laughter. The author did not have to do something special to keep me interested in reading text because his choise was catching for me. At least I thought like that at the beginning because while we were reading the text in the book, it started to bother me. Actually the numbers which are used to impress the readers, make me annoy. The author talked about a lot of scientific things, researches, and cardiologists. There is a study about people who have heart attack, and the study's result which is persuasive, but like I said before they were really boring, but I cannot say that the people who have heart attack and are old cannot benefit from this text.Anyway if we talk about the reading extra I can be happier because it was better than the other one. I think the reason why I liked it is that it talked about an experience, a thing which is in life. Yes I liked it, but I have to say that whenever I read something like that I think that they are urban legend :D There is a man who has a serious illness. Everyone thinks that he will die very soon, but a miracle happens, he find a nonconventional medical treatment, and he get over.(If my mom reads them, she kills me :D ) I do not want to a person who against the nonconventional medicine because I am not like that, but I do not know why I cannot believe this kind of story altough I have fun while I am reading them.(again I digressed)After all I can say that the book was boring again, the reading extra was more enjoyable than the book.
Dear Elif, You have mentioned your ideas really thoroughly in that you find the first text boring and the second one more enjoyable. I see that you don't like the statistics but your concentration should be whether the point discussed in the texts are appealing to you or not. Namely, I suggest your focusing on your opinions whether laughter can be a preventive medicine or a remedy for illnesses. İnci teacher:)
This week's texts have really noteworthy subjects.I agree with the idea that laughter is the most useful medicine for all kind of diseases, but as usual, the text that is in concepts for today was less interesting with all these scientific -and meaningless to me-statistics of it.I like reading papers' text more than other. The example of the man who is at death's door was hopeful for other patients and me.A good life that is full of enjoy and laughter mostly bring good healthy years, but you'd better not to forget there were some people who died while they were laughing, such as in Cem Yılmaz's shows.Anyway, a day with full of smiles and laughter is better than a day without them.
Dear Elif, Despite being short, I see that you have really reflected on the topic "laughter" in your journal.Instead of summarising the details in the texts you've briefly touched upon that and more focused on your idea about the theme. I appreciate it. Yet, next time try to write more. İnci teacher:)
Couple years ago I have seen that laughing front of mirror for 5 minutes takes care of heart. It is essential to stretch the muscles to relax the heart ,so the best way is to laugh for a while. However it is healty for our heart lots of people think that laughing gives you wrinkles so mostly women avoid it.According to text laughter provies us with healtyness and texts states that with scientific facts. I can say that this is the best part of the text of the week. I believe text is based on real researchs because I have knowledge about the affects of laughter on heart so I was quite amazed by the text.I do not think its based on laughter. I think being happy and cheerful ,which means avoiding the stress is a tiny part of keeping our body healty.I do not think laughter can fight any illness or make someone survive .
I see that you have reflected on the topic shortly but your reflection is to the point. The reader understands why you think laughter can be a remedy for possible illnesses. I liked it. Yet, you could elaborate on that a bit more in detail. İnci teacher:)
'Is laughter the best medicine for your heart?' we dealed with this topic at this week.It has been said lots of things that benefits of laughing, but I mean real laughing. For example in first text mentioned that laughing in front of a mirror.Isn't it ridicilous? If we think logically, also according to the second text, laughing is associated with hormone and so vessels. It means physically you seem laughing, but in chemical way is important one.In conclusion,I liked both of text.Live well, laugh often, love much…
Although I have got the gist of your journal, I'd prefer it to be more thoroughly. You have just briefly touched upon the two texts but you also know and mentioned that it needs more elaboration. However, you have a very reasonable excuse: Happy birtday, carpe diem and do not forget to LAUGH:) İnci teacher
As I know laughter is not best medicine, but helps my heart. When I smile or laugh something, my blood flow increases, my blood pressure and pulse is fixed.
