Dear Bravos,
This is to announce the reading journal task for this week. Now that there were several common points between the two texts, please refer to both texts in particular, in this week's journal.
Plus, I'd like to remind the TOEFL Reading Comprehension Post-test as weekend assignment. I'll check them on Monday so please don't forget to bring them with you.

READING JOURNAL-7
YanıtlaSilThis week we read two texts which focus on system of government. The text which is in the reading book is about the federal system of the US and how it has existed from past to present.First of all, both of the texts are really imformational. Before reading them,I had not familiar with the federal system in detail. In addition, the first reading is adequate to understand how federal system works.Whether the federal system look very difficult to apply ,the text explains to us how it works efficiently and fairly.By dint of the system of checks and balances, the US government try to provide concentration of power in the hands of one,or one group. In other words,by using this system, the power is divided into three parts and each of them checks themselves automatically.Although, the laws and rights written ,people should be vigilant because anyboyd can use his his or her power to make profit. Also, this truth is same for every country. In the second text,we read general information about unitary and federal system. In this text, the author gave us some informations about power of the federal governments, and although the federal government should not be most powerful one, some countries such as Switzerland,France ,and Canadian which apply federal system do not use their power fairly. Finally,I really liked both text, and I learnt lots of things about system of government...
Dear Melih,
SilI see you learned several things from the text and summarized them to us. It is nice to see that you've provided us with the details in the articles. Yet, why don't you reflect on the checks and balances system rather than just mentioning what it is in the text. You could compare and contrast the case in the USA and Turkey. Theni it could have been a very well-organized journal. In brief, summarize less, reflect on it more. :)
READING JOURNAL - 7
YanıtlaSilThe topics of this week are a little bit different from tha othet topics which we have talked about. The text which is in the reading book is about the federal system of government, tha othe text gives us the general information about unitary and federal governing systems. The author again cut the topic into articles in the book. American's process going to the independence is tha main point of the first part of it. In some cases, the happenings are parallel with our time course when we got our independence. We did not use to be governed by colonial system as they used to be done, but we also strived to change the system of government like they did. The other parts of the text are about the Constitution and the system of checks and balance. These articles also include the duration that they managed to choose their future. The thing which really strikes a chord for me is the mile stone of the government- checks and balance system. In my point of view, reailzing the similarities between their system and ours is catchy. To mention about the other text, it is a kind of summary of the first text. As distinct from the first text, there are some spesific examples which show the countries governed differently from others. This text is not useful for people who have not had a knowledge about the history of America and its government system because it does not include as many information as the first text. If a person wants to be start with the second text, there might be some rambling things in his or her mind. I recommend that the person who will read these texts choose the first text for the begining. After that, the second text should be read.
Özlem,
SilYou have both summarized and reflected on the checks and balances system. In particular, I liked your remark on similiarites between their and our system. Yet you could elaborate on that more. This would make it a perfect match:)
READING JOURNAL-7
YanıtlaSilThe issue of this week is the federal government system. Both reading texts mention how this system has been carried out in the USA so far.I think both authors try to allude to America's might. It is considered that United States inherited power from wars such as World War 2,but in fact, the potential which leads to American dream comes from the independence of American states. That's way,the authors note the key position of these states. On the other hand, the authors claims that the reason why USA opted for the federal government is solely based on the joint desire of each state. If I had the chance to talk to the author of this text, I would ask him/her to learn whether or not United States was impressed by Ottoman Empire. Why I think so is obvious because the Ottoman Empire ruled over a huge empire by some sort of federal system. On the other hand, there is a point about American federal system which I appreciate.´´The checks and balances system.´´ I think this system guards the whole system of USA and democracy from traitor to his country's values. However, even if such wise does the Constitution include, the system can easily be destroyed. The last part that I want to mention is why American Constitution has already existed even though it was written in 1787.I think the answer is so evident.Permanence results in success
Doğancan,
SilIt's fabulous to see how much you've improved and got the gist of what is expected from you in the journal. Very well done:)
I have been interested in American history since highschool,Especially the fedaral system that they have. This is why I really enjoyed the topic of the week .Its quite interesting for me that every state has their own law system and legislative system.Even though the topic is little bit hard to understand because of all those legal terms , I have found it really helpful in terms of toefl. The difference between our system and federal system is obvious . Even though each states has their own system , there's no argument between them which is perfect and I finnaly understood what checks and balance means . After all those legal terms text explains it really well .That America was seperated to brenchs is an evidance of that power is shared.
YanıtlaSilİlker,
SilAnother short but to the point remark. I can see an integration of a bit of summary of the text and your reflection on it. The only thing is that you could elaborate on more details and extend your remarks.
READING JOURNAL-7
YanıtlaSilLast week our topic was the federal system of government. The texts which we read gave some information about how the government of the United States. The text being in the book explained how government runs in US, and history of forming government, but the other text gave us some differences between states, but it was mentioned generally in the first text. Altough I did not find the topic interesting, I loved the way of author's explanation. He put in order very well every topic. Readers can easily know the drill or they can understand what is next. He also gave some specific information about government of US such as, bills, tax laws, and branches etc. As I mentioned before the second text was like equating of different laws between states. As we learned from texts, every states have their own some laws. I think it was more interesting than was the other one, but I can say that they were very connected each other. First text was like an explanation ,and the second text was like supporting idea or example of the first text.
Dear Elif,
SilIt OK if you write about the content and the style of the texts. What's more, you could also mention your remarks on any point discussed in the texts eg the federal system or the checks and balances system or the comparison of the system with Turkey.
The texts are very related with each other, almost like they are complement each other. Only, first one is more general and sweeping therewithal second one is more specific and has more details. From the first text, it is easily apprehensible what the writer was trying to show forth. I understood that the Americans were steadfast about their independence against both British Empire and the idea of unitary system. For the results which the central government might led, they chose federal system and to separate power which is also known as the system of checks and balances. Writer did a splendid job for readers to understand it. The system of checks and balances is something which cannot be understood easily, but all of its three branches are explained very well by writer. About the second text, it gives the differences between unitary and federal government systems and some specific information about some states in United States. It was really interesting to learn these differences. It is more enjoyable reading compare to the first one, but I think if we did not read the first text first, it would not be enjoyable as much as this. In epitome, I think texts are completing each other and they are well written.
YanıtlaSilErsel,
SilI guess it is the first time you're making positive comments about a text, which is nice:) More than that I liked your journal entry in that you've both summarized and reflected on it. Maybe you could elaborate on the checks and balances system and its applications in our country.
