READING JOURNAL CT4 UNIT-5
YanıtlaSilThis week,we analyzed two texts whose topics are connected with treatment and health. The way of remedies which authors suggest have endured for a long time ,and also, both of them are grounded in cultures of people and experiences of people. The one of the treatment is acupuncture which comes from Far East.According to text, acupuncture can cure some of ailment such as anxiety, depression, back pain, and etc.I was fascinated when I read this passage, but somehow, the infection danger is ignored by someone.I think that the author needs to take a balanced approach to this point.Besides,I learned from the text why M.D.s and dentists start to specialize in acupuncture. This point is so astounding since the point indicates that the alternative medicine is getting preferable slowly, and before I read the text,I believe that there are 5000 acupuncturist in USA at the most.Unlike the my belief, there are 6500 certificated acupuncturists, and also, more people busy themselves with doing acupuncture in illegal way. This additional knowledge back up my previous idea. Finally,I want to mention the beneath idea of examples. The examples refer to the merit side of acupuncture.Via examples, the author try to convince to choose acupuncture, and s/he told us with the examples not to try to wish vain hope about conventional medicine. The another treatment is leeching.Leeching used to be considered a good treatment in all kind of ilnesses in the depth side of history, but people change their mind about this treatment, but like the acupuncture, nowadays, leeching is in process of gaining its prestige. In my judgment, leeching is less hazardous than the past because modern medicine has more knowledge about leeching than past. Also, some surgical operations necessiate using leech in some cases. Moreover,I learned about leeches from this text that only one kind is used in medicine.I bet that noone has this knowledge before they read the text.I think that the reason for this is that the first three paragraphs' content is suitable for people who like unnecessary knowledge
Doğancan,
SilIt's a well organized journal entry both summarizing and reflecting on the points. Well done:)
READING JOURNAL - 5
YanıtlaSilAcupuncture and leech are two ways which are out of today's conventional medicine like drugs, syrgeries, etc. This week, our topic is about these methods. Firstly, the text which is stated in the book handles the subject - acupuncture. The text helps us understand the history of this method, the execution area of it, and lots of real examples who tried this method. The topics which are connected with the medical techniques catch my attention easily. It is written that acupuncture is being used for recovery of a variety of ailments, reducing the usual pain like headache, or only a preventive measure. Even if it does not work completely, people using this method feel themselves better. In my point of view, the only thing which the author missed to mention is the drawbacks of it. For the sake of an example, if acupunctures do not care about hygiene, patients can get a blood-borne disease like AIDSbecause needles are pricked into the patient's body. Secondly, there is an old method which was given up because of some deathes. This method is called leeches. The author tells the history of it, too. This text affectes me a lot, but unfortunately in a bad way. I felt nauseous when I was reading this text. It sounds really disgusting for me. In the days of old, it was a common method to cure of many illnesses. I cannot decide which way is good. Modern technology or ancient methods? First text is a good example for old methods, but the second one made me think that modern tochnology is a must. I am on the horns of a dilemma.
Özlem,
SilI appreciated your way of organizing your ideas. It's an ideal reading journal entry in which you integrated both your own remarks and main points discussed in the articles.
Reading Journal-5
YanıtlaSilFrom my childhood to the day that I'm in,I've always respected all old treatment styles because I saw many of them can be more useful than today's remedy ways.It can be seemed to you as an old-fashioned thought but even if it is like that, most of the people cannot deny the power of old Chinese treatment technique. Our lifes depend on two things;body and soul. They must have a balance between them. The main point of Chinese remedy tradition is to try to balance this.I think there might be another ways but for today, the most known and popular way is acupuncture.I remember when I was a child, many people were goin to an acupunturist.Even my mom.She had a head-ache and when she returned to home ,she used to seem relaxed to me.Acupuncrue is still a valuable treatment way but some part of society don't get the main point of this.I know there's a lot of people who try to lose weight and going acupuncturist because of that. They are just going acupuncturist and doing nothing else and they cannot lose weight. Then, they are saying that acupunctur is useless because they are not informed about in which way to use alternative treatment would be useful.I think doctors should stop giving more and more medicine, and inform people about acupunctur, etc. When it comes to leeches,I've heard about that too much blood can cause some illnesses.Today, when you go to donate blood ,you can see it in the table of the benefits of giving blood.Actually, today, leeches and some kinds of fish are used in thermal teraphy under the supervision of the doctors and most of the patients are quite pleasure with treatment and its results.I didn't use to know that leeches can be used in reaatachment surgeries, but after I heard that ,I believe thatusing leeches can be more useful than most of people think. As a result,I am really pleasure because I read both of these two texts.
Elif,
SilThis is a real response writing on the articles. You've mentioned a number of remarks on acupuncture and what you personally think about this method. The only thing I should say is that you could make a reference to he text more. The reader doesn't understand your remarks are based on articles.
In my life,I have never trusted any kind of non-conventional remedy.I do not think any kind of remedy can be as useful as modern medicine. I am not a fan of drugs or medicines ofcourse but I trust them more. There are so many people , who tries non-conventional remedy as last solution, which means we can not rely on those kind of cure at first. Couple years ago , I have heard about acupuncture on tv . It was on interview about the affects of acupuncture on immun system. They said it prevents some affects of diseases about immun system. It does not cure them but can be used do avoid the symtoms.Ofcouse that is really nice, but thay may has lots of risks such as infectious diseases. This weeks texts was really good but it did not mention about risks of acupuncture at all .Those risks have undeniable dangers ,so texts should have given information about that. I did not like the optimistic way of the text because it only gives feature and good ways of the acupuncture. According to text ,there are some examples of acupuncture therapys and the results, but we can not know if acupuncture cured those people.
YanıtlaSilYou've mentioned a number of remarks on acupuncture and what you personally think about this method. Why don't you make a reference to the text more? The reader doesn't understand your remarks are based on articles.
SilReading Journal-5
YanıtlaSilOur new topics were alternative treatment methods such as using leech and acupuncture. The author who wrote about acupuncture talked about a man who felt pain in his left arm. Although the man went to almost every kind of doctor, and got doctors make a lot of tests, no one did not find even a diagnosis. After all uncomfortable thing he decided to go an acupuncturist. The only example which was given is not it, there are examples more than it. Exemplary peoples have a common point, which is that none of them went to directly an acupuncturist after had tried the other medical treatments, and I like that using that, and also I learned that acupuncture is 2200 years old.I thought that it must have been old, but I did not like that. The other think which I learned from the passages is that the body has more than 800 acupuncture points, and a life force called qi circulates through the body. I think it is very interesting. The other passage was about leech ( I have to acknowledge that I had revolted before I read the passage) Despite using leeches is not common in Turkey, they are used for a lot of different kind of ilnesses, and also they have been used in medicine for over 3000 years. I can say that leeches are with us for many years if we know or not.(It is a little bit irritating.) The author talked about leeches how are used ,and he gave some information about them.In brief I can say that the authors' common point is their topic I mean that they talked about alternative treatment, but of course with different ways.
Elif,
SilThanks for summarizing several details in the text. Although you have mentioned your remarks too, I suggest that you focus more on your reflections. Yet, this is a nice journal entry.
This week, topics are about alternate treatment ways for some kinds of ailments. The first one is about acupuncture which is very old and traditional form of medicine in China. In this text, there is given some real life experiences. For example, the first one is about a man who tried many things to recover his elbow pain. This one is very good explicated. The text also gives information about its history. However, acupuncture is a way to reduce the pain than a treatment. The second text is about leeches. It is an interesting creature which is used for treatment, which its usage as old as acupuncture. In old days, it has used for every kind of illnesses which was big ignorance. From text, I learned some unfortunate experiences. Nowadays, there are much known about leeches. However, I would never approach these two old medicines before I am done with the modern medical treatments.
YanıtlaSilErsel,
SilAnother summary paragraph lack of reflections. The reader already knows the articles, do not just paraphrase but mention your remark more on any point discussed in either text.
READING JOURNAL - 5
YanıtlaSilAcupunture is the nex old medicine. As it mentioned in the text, history of the acupuncture depend on experience of 2200 years. Also, this subject is very exciting for me because it is vey interesting treatment.A human boday has more than 800 specific points which have connect with organs.I always wonder whether acupuncture is dependable because acupuncturists use needles and pricke them into body. That's why it is possible that you may pick up an illness if the needles are not hygienic. On the other hand ,the author metioned that most of the time acupuncture is more effective than the conventionel ones.At this point,we should consider the advantages of it.Even today, doctors and scientists still go on discovering new things. To me,I believe that acupuncture has gorgeous effects on people if the acupuncturist is a dependable and professional person.I really liked the text and all of the examples were reasonable. One day,I hope I can experience this relaxing.
Dear Melih,
SilI liked your reflections on the topic. Instead of mentioning too many details from the text, you've touched upon a part of the text:)
